Working 9 to 5, NOT a way to make a living :)

Hello to all ,

I'm Eliran and i decided to write a blog, so wish me luck :)

Since early age, I remembered myself wanting to be a programmer when i'll grow up.
When I was 16, I developed my first site (half-developed, it was Dreamweaver on that time),
and one year later, I played with some flash (R.I.P) scripts.

Since then, I went through the normal routine of army, B.Sc in Computer Science and a nice 9 to 5 job.

At first, I was very happy with my choice.
I worked in a very successful company, with good conditions and good people.
But after some time, I started to feel like its not the best selection for me, and with the time I understand a few things about myself :

1. While i'm programming, I want to be 100% concentrate on that, and not in talking to people in my     office.

2. Meetings were very boring to me, as I preferred to work on that time and not listen to something that probably won't be relevant to my work.

3.  When you're working in a big company, the bigger the company is, chances are higher that the job you'll need to do will be limited to certain internal api that probably won't help you in the world outside of that company.
now that's a big issue for me, as i really like to learn new technologies and create everything from scratch to the end, and not do something in the middle.

So I was bored pretty fast from that position, so to do something fun i created 2 android applications in my free time :

1. TubeFM - radio stations for youtube.
2. Taxi Partner - Taxi sharing platform.

I enjoyed the process very much and liked the flexibility to decide myself how to develop it.

So i understood that i prefer to develop projects myself and not in a big company , and also I prefer to work from home and not in a 9-to-5 job.

After this conclusions, I decided to become a freelancer :)

I started to search for jobs in Upwork, and i know that there is one big disadvantage : finding work is not as easy and profitable as it the 9-to-5 world.

Fortunately, I had the honor to hear about Toptal (http://www.toptal.com) - which is a platform for connecting clients and freelancers for more efficient way to work together. there are few good stuff about it :

1. as a client, you can get your money back if you're not satisfy with the product / freelancer.
2. as a freelancer, you don't need to worry about finding job, as its provided by the company.

So basically, Toptal is taking the good things about freelancing, and the good things in a stable work, and combines them together :)

You can read about good experience from one of their engineers on this blog post :

Wish me luck in my new way of trying to join Toptal community   http://www.toptal.com/app :)
